Sara Niknejad accepts a limited number of artist-led commissions in sculptural light for hospitality, residential, cultural, and design-led interiors.
Each commission begins with context—not with a catalogue of options. The brief establishes scale, atmosphere, placement, and practical requirements, while the final form emerges through Niksa Design’s material language of handmade paper, weathered wood, asymmetry, structure, and light.

Commissioned sculptural light may be developed for lobbies, reception areas, lounges, restaurants, guest spaces, private residences, and cultural or design-led interiors.
A project may take the form of a single sculptural focal point, a larger site-responsive work, or a related group of luminous forms. Scale, composition, orientation, palette, light quality, and atmosphere are considered in relation to the architecture.
Each commission remains an original Niksa Design work rather than a standardized fixture adapted from a catalogue. Existing works may open a conversation, but they are not reproduced exactly.

A material language
Paper, wood,
and light.
Handmade paper carries and softens light. Weathered wood provides structure, history, and resistance. Their irregularities are not concealed; they guide the balance between fragility and strength, shadow and illumination.

Project brief
Share the site, intended placement, approximate dimensions, drawings or photographs, desired timeline, and indicative budget.

Artistic direction
If the project is a strong fit, the work is developed through scale, composition, palette, material, and atmosphere. Where required, a separate concept phase is agreed before design work begins.

Proposal & coordination
The scope, quotation, schedule, and responsibilities are documented. Qualified local professionals confirm relevant electrical, structural, mounting, and installation requirements.

Fabrication & delivery
The work is made in the Ontario studio, documented, carefully packed, and prepared for delivery. Final installation is completed by the client’s qualified local team where required.
Remote and on-site collaboration
Developed in relation
to the space.
Projects can be developed remotely using client-supplied plans, verified dimensions, site photographs, video calls, finish schedules, and material references. Fabrication takes place in the Ontario studio, followed by documentation, protective packing, and shipping.
On-site consultation or artist participation may be considered separately for selected commissions, depending on location, scope, and schedule.
Electrical configuration, structural support, mounting requirements, attachment points, rigging, and any project-specific certification or field evaluation are confirmed with the client’s qualified local professionals before fabrication, where required. Final installation is completed by the client’s qualified local electrician and installation team.

Can an existing work be reproduced exactly?
No. An existing work may provide a point of reference, but every commission is developed as a new piece within Niksa Design’s visual and material language.
Can the process begin remotely?
Yes. Initial development can usually proceed through verified dimensions, plans, photographs, material references, and scheduled video calls. Site review may be considered separately where required.
Does submitting a brief confirm the project?
No. Every inquiry is reviewed for artistic fit, feasibility, schedule, budget, and studio capacity before a commission is accepted.
Who confirms technical requirements and installation?
The client’s qualified local professionals confirm relevant electrical, structural, mounting, certification, and installation requirements. These responsibilities are documented before fabrication begins.
